Italian Cultural Events

The autumn programme of the Italian Cultural Institute is packed full of important events. The Italian Art Exhibition from the Royal Collection – this time focusing on the baroque period – will open on November 23 and run until March 8 2009 at the Queen’s Gallery in Edinburgh.Given the success of the first part of the exhibition (on Renaissance art) the prospect of being able to view works by such masters as Domenichino, Carracci, and especially Caravaggio, seems certain to attract just as many, if not more visitors this time round.Special attention should also be given to the eighth edition of Italian Language week which has as its theme this year “L’Italiano in Piazza”. A series of initiatives is planned – everything from academic gatherings to entertainment events, including the hosting of a special day at Edinburgh University designed to encourage young people in their interest in, and love of, all things Italian.
