Kids corner | Red Telephone Box Barga

-

Just over a year since the opening of The smallest Library in Tuscany, the opening of the section for young people “Kids’ Corner” will soon take place. So what are you waiting for? Come to the red Telephone box on Saturday 20th, bring a book with you to exchange with someone else or to leave in the phone box to take part in bookcrossing.com! Then we will have a snack together and maybe read a good book. Thanks to the Osteria Borgo 1 and the Cartoleria da Erina.

On the morning of the 20th at 10a.m. The Wee Library will be given a good clean out, and organised with folders and explanations for the many book lovers who often stop to have a wee look at this small but significant point of interest in Barga. So if you too wish to lend a hand, please come along on Saturday morning and spend some time with other book lovers. On sale in shops around the town of Barga are magnets of The red Telephone Box at the cost of 4 euros each, the profit to go entirely towards revamping the smallest library in Tuscany.

The wee library began in Barga in July 2015, an idea of the burgh of Barga, Pro Loco Barga, BargaNews, Poli Newsagents and ‘Between the Lines’ Barga, with the intent of giving a special meaning to the British telephone box donated by the well-known Italian-Scot, Mauro Cecchini, as a symbol of the union between Barga and Scotland. In little over a year the wee library was filled with books, firstly by organisers, then by passers-by. Hundreds of people became very curious and often left books there. Well known people include Massimo Polidoro, Bruno Gambarotta, Giulia Bevilacqua, Giulia Michelini, Fabio Genovesi, also the Scottish Parliamentarian Marco Biagi and many others.

The red phonebox has become an official point of exchange, bookcrossing.com, found on google maps and facebook.
