BargaJazz festival

-

An important anniversary for one of the longest Jazz Festivals in Italy, so much so that the organisers decided to go ahead with the event despite many problems.

In 1986 Giancarlo Rizzardi with the precious collaboration of M° Bruno Tommaso proposed the Town Hall the to organise a Festival on Compositions and Arrangements for Jazz Orchestras. Since then the Festival has grown and has become an important step in the career of many professional musicians for Orchestra Jazz compositions. Many important Italian and International Jazz musicians have come to Barga like Paolo Fresu, Stefano Bollani, Pietro Tonolo, Marco Tamburini and many others.

Before the official opening of the Festival, on the 18, 19 and 20 August there will be three concerts in the squares of the Historical Centre in collaboration with the restaurants of Barga based on the Jazz for dinner formula (dinner and concert).

On 21 August there will be as always Barga IN Jazz with musica in the streets and squares of the historical centre (from 17) and to end the evening a great jam session with the protagonists of the event.

On 23 August at the Teatro dei Differenti Bruno Tommaso will present his original project “The Warrior from Capestrano” with an unedited ensemble, while on 24 August there will be saxophone quartet Arundo Donax with Pietro Tonolo, Mario Raja, Pasquale Laino and Rossano Emili.

Franco D’Andrea, one of the most important Italian pianists, will be in Barga from 25 to 27 August and will play solo on 25 August while on 27th will play with BargaJazz Orchestra, directed by Mario Raja, with arrangements composed especially for him by the competitors.

On 26 August Franco D’Andrea will hold a Masterclass for students and musicians. During the Festival Francesco Martinelli and Luca Bragalini will hold seminars for musicians and the public.

For the 30th anniversary there will be a special exhibition “30 years of BargaJazz” with posters, images and memories of the Festival.
