Unitre Barga conference on Monday 19.01 at 17,15 Aula Magna held by Gloria Nardini from Chicago
Gloria Nardini will present a rich and varied picture of Chicago’s Italian women supported by slides and photographs based on her book Italian Women in Chicago – “Madonna Mia! Qui debbo vivere?
Women depicted as ragpickers, needle workers, midwives, labor organizers, farm workers, club women, county commissioners, lawyers, doctors, dentists, writers, entrepreneurs, broadcasters, performers, homemakers, and mothers. Topics include food, family, celebration, work, struggle, love, grief, immigrant and post-immigrant life in Chicago’s Little Italy and beyond. At the core of each piece often lies a struggle — sometimes salient, more often subtle — about identity and the coming to terms with their italianitá. Women that sacrificed their families, their childhood, their country, women that emigrated to an unknown land to survive! The Italian women in Chicago represent the Italian women all over the world.
