ITALIAN MEMORIAL GARDEN FUND RAISING DINNERThe Italian memorial garden will be built alongside St Andrew’s Cathedral, scheduled to open next winter. To raise funds there are two special initiatives to which you are asked to give support.1) A dinner with Italian music from young musicians of the Royal Scottish Academy and speakers, including screen writer Sergio Casci will be held at Loch Green House Hotel, Troon on Sunday November 15. Tables of 10 can be booked by contacting Paul Verrico at paul.verrico@cosmoceramics.co.uk or Adriano De Marco at 0141 952 0874. Tickets are £45 each. There will also be an auction. Any donations of prizes for this would be gratefully accepted.A special double room rate of £140 has been negotiated with the hotel for participants.
WALL OF NAMES
Many people have expressed interest in having a loved one’s name commemorated in the new Italian Garden next to St Andrew’s Cathedral. The idea would be to recall a deceased parent or relative in perpetuity in the Cathedral Garden as a special way of remembering them.
If you wish to commemorate a loved one on a special “wall of names” in the garden – you can do so for a minimum donation of £100 per name. If you wish to make a donation to this appeal please send it to
Italian Garden Appeal, Archdiocese of Glasgow, 196 Clyde St, Glasgow G1 4JY. Cheques should be made payable to “Archdiocese of Glasgow Italian Garden Appeal”.A covering letter outlining the name to be included must accompany the cheque.
LUCCHESI NEL MONDO
The 40th anniversary of the Lucchesi nel Mondo Scottish Branch will be marked in style this month. On 31 Oct at the Hilton Grosvenor West End there will be a special anniversary night celebration. Tickets cost £30 and include a four course meal and music from Roberto Enzo.
Guests of honour will include Archbishop Conti and Italian dignitaries.

REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE
The following request has reached us and we gladly pass it on…
My grandparents Alessandro Desao and Marianna Visocchi migrated from Monte Casino to Scotland very early in the 20th century. I know very little about their plight; and no longer have living relatives to provide me with ‘leads’. What I would like to find out is how my grandparents came to Scotland. I believe there was a mass exodus, and wondered if there was a particular ship that was used to transport them?
I have some details regarding my great grandparents and would like to try and find out more about them. Could you recommend Web Sites I could visit for further information? I would be happy to receive any guidance from you. Kindest regards, Marrianna Cammack. If you can help contact Marrianna at
